                   About Us
If you can’t find exactly what you want, think about having a piece custom designed.  Some customers have related stories
about custom design at a jewelry store where, after only speaking with a sales person and not meeting the jeweler, they didn’t
see the piece until it was completed – and were disappointed by the final product.  At Smale Jewelers, custom design is a
collaborative effort between the jeweler and the customer, sales people are not jewelers!  You are part of the entire process
from beginning to end.  Go to our
design page to read more about the design process.

Custom ordering provides a much larger selection than typical jewelry stores at no additional cost and Mike is ready to spend
as much time as a customer needs.  For example, you may want to select a couple of engagement rings or wedding bands that
can be ordered for you to try out in a relaxed, no pressure setting.  There is no risk and no cost to examine different pieces.  In
addition to an extensive selection of the latest finished jewelry, you can also browse thousands of
diamonds through our on-line
diamond inventory.  After experiencing Smale Jewelers, many customers have stated that jewelry stores don’t have the time to
sit down with them to help with custom ordering, if they even provide that service, as their focus is to move their existing
inventory.

Mike has always enjoyed the hands-on nature of the work and has a great love of the jewelry craft – whether it’s designing,
diamond setting, repairing, or helping the customer select the perfect diamond or colored stone for their special ring or other
item.

If you are looking for a different experience than your typical jewelry store, call or email Mike for an appointment.

Smale Jewelers is a small business, owned
and operated by Mike Smale – there are no
sales people.  Born and raised in Kensington,
Maryland, Mike Smale has been providing
professional jewelry services to customers in
the Maryland, DC, and Virginia area since
1983.   After 22 years in Montgomery
County, Mike wanted to get away from the
overcrowded conditions there and moved to
Frederick County in 2007.

Keeping the business small has enabled Mike
to continually provide personalized services,
one to one, with each customer – designing or
custom ordering exactly what the customer
wants.  Low overhead allows him to offer
very competitive prices.
